A snowy day in Brooklyn

It's white, it's a bit cold, but it's winter. I'm not quite sure why people can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that it snows in winter. People are freaking out...schools are closed...it's just a bit of snow. Sure if you're driving, you must be careful. We live in a city where public transportation moves us from one borough to the next all underground. Whatever the situation, just take a moment to feel the cold and the wetness of the snow. Before we know it it will be gone and then we will be complaining that it's too hot. Embrace all the seasons. And remember that we are just part of a greater being called Mother Nature.

The end of summer

The season is starting to change...the days are getting shorter...the air a bit crisper.

I cannot believe that the summer is almost over. Time goes way too fast.

We are ready for another trip to visit family and friends in Berlin and then continue exploring South America. The journey will continue.

A traumatizing experience in NYC

I have to admit that I never thought I would have to feel as if I was "running for my life". But on Wednesday, that was the case. As the water pipe in NYC decided to explode, I was in my class with the rest of my classmates. We heard this noise that sounded at first like thunder, but then didn't stop. Our building started shaking and we saw this smoke/steam coming from what seemed to be the middle of a building on the opposite corner of our building.

No one knew what was happening, but as you can all imagine, we were all thinking the worst. That there was some sort of terror attack and that we needed to haul ass out of the building. We took what we could and then started running down the stairs. As we got into the lobby, the security guard kept saying "run and keep running". Well let me tell you that's exactly what I did. The only thing on my mind was that whatever this thing is, I want to get as far away as I possibly can. So I ran.....and ran....and ran....until I felt I was far enough away that I could walk at a fast pace.

The minute I picked up my cell phone it died so that just added to the frustration and panic. I saw a woman walking next to me who was in tears and on the verge of hyperventilating. I told her she needed to breathe otherwise she was going to pass out. We walked hand in hand and I helped her calm her breathing down. Luckily she had a cell phone and let me use it to try and get in touch with Phil and the rest of my family.

We walked to Columbus Circle where some of her co-workers were and in case we had to run even further, we could go into Central Park we would both feel a safe. In the end it was only a pipe explosion and not a terror attack, but I was still in a state of mind where I was not believing what I heard. I walked back home to the East Village as I refused to take the subway at that point.

As I walked back, I got some strange looks from people probably wondering why I was in such a rush and who could even imagine what I must have looked like. With random debris drops on my clothes and my backpack I probably looked like I just survived some sort of explosion. And you know what, I did!!

For those who weren't there to experience it, it probably seems like just another event in NYC. But let me tell you for those who were there it was SCARY. We all felt like we really were running for our lives. We didn't know what was going to happen.

All I can say, is that it is 2 days later and I still have this strange feeling. I know it will eventually go away, but I will never forget it.

To those who have ever experienced anything like this, my heart goes out to you.

Looking forward to change

I've been at the same job since I've been 15 and I am now living my 29th year of life. So one could say it's been a while. I've officially decided to move on to the next stage of my life at the end of June. I am officially leaving my job and taking steps to start a new career path. I cannot express how excited I am with the new changes that will take place. It will be a bit of a challenge, but this change is something I have been contemplating for over 2 years and I am FINALLY making it a reality.

At the beginning of June I will become certified to be a Pilates instructor and then during the month of July I will be enrolled in an intensive TOEFL course (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). It will be a change from what I've been accustomed to the past 6 years working full time at an office. But I am truly looking forward to all that will come.

A new year and new changes. We moved to the East Village and are enjoying our new cozy, one bedroom apartment in our new neighborhood. It feels more like home every day. I'm ready for a new job...on the search for something new and different. Not exactly sure what yet, but I feel like I'll know it when I come across it.

Winter is here and it's now officially cold in NYC. Not really enjoying what will come, but it's the natural progression of things and it makes the seasons after that well appreciated.

We were in Costa Rica visiting Phil's brother for 12 days which was a nice a relatively relaxing vacation. Once Phil's pictures are up, I'll post the link for you to see.

This is a year for happy, positive changes...I feel it.

Busy busy

The summer was busy with travelling...between going to Berlin to spend time with Phil's family and friends, making a vacation of it and just chilling out for 2 weeks, there was a lot going on.

Then we came back to NYC and a month later, travelled to Colorado for my cousin and BEST FRIENDS wedding. We go to Colorado every summer for a vacation, to visit Als and Charlie and get away from the busy NYC life. It's always a welcomed trip, this time there was just an extra happy reason to celebrate. There was a bit less time to actually go camping and hiking b/c of all the family and friends in town, but it was a great trip none the less.

Back from Berlin, Germany

Back from Berlin and the week went by too fast. It was great to see our friends and family, but one week in Europe just isn't enough. By the time you get adjusted to everything, you have to come back. What can you do? We'll be back there again in August and then we'll be able to enjoy some sunshine.

My birthday is coming up next week and it's crazy to think that another year has passed. When you think back on it, so much has happened, but I clearly remember last years birthday as if it just was.

I'm waiting for Spring as my body is tired of being cold and wearing jackets all the time...it's time for flowers to bloom and trees to turn green again. Patiently awaiting.

A new year and new beginnings

So 2006 has arrived. Unbelievable to think that time flies by so fast. But that's life. It is so important to tresure each day and make the most of what we can. It makes me get all sentimental, but it's just that you never know what can happen.

I'm hoping this year will bring more wonders, challenges, love, success and of course good health.
